ACMA Approvals

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) requires all cables that are intended for use on the customer side of a telecommunications network to comply to specific physical, electrical and labelling requirements provided in CA/ACIF S008.

The labelling requirements are intended to ensure that the installer/end-user is informed about the compliance status of cabling products. S008 references the Telecommunications Labelling (Customer Equipment and Customer Cabling) Notice 2001 for the labelling details.

Pursuant to the Labelling Notice Part 2A, cabling products may be directly labelled, or they may be listed by the Supplier on a publicly available Register.

Therefore, compliant General Cable products which are not directly labelled are listed in the link below.


Recycling

Underwriters Laboratory-Listed


This is one of the most common UL marks. If a product carries this mark, it means UL found that samples of this product met UL's safety requirements. These requirements are primarily based on UL's own published standards. Listed Ratings for Communication Cables: The principle safety aspect applicable to cables is their behaviour in fire. UL have developed a group of tests which differ in nature depending on the end use for the cable. the letters following the UL symbol on the cable will indicate the burn performance.


Underwriters Laboratory-Verified


In addition to safety standards, UL have developed or adopted performance standards for some cable types. In particular Local Area Network (LAN) cables will be approved to a variety of performance categories. The applicable category is printed on the cable. In addition the product label will generally contain the words "Also verified to UL performance category program"


Underwriters Laboratory-Recognised


UL recognised marks are used on components of a system. Cable bearing this mark has been tested to UL standards and approved for use in specific applications. The limits are specified on the label.
